Faith in Elderly People (Leeds) has been at work since 1982, arising out of the national Faith in the City and the Faith in Leeds programmes of the early 1980s. Its twofold aim is to improve the quality of life of older people in Leeds, including the nurture of their spiritual lives, and to raise awareness of the value and gifts of older people. For several years Gaynor Hammond developed its dementia project, helping churches and community groups understand and improve the care of those with dementia. She remains a much valued member of the group.
Over the years FIEP has sponsored a number of significant conferences and seminars on dementia; public policy and personal care; ageing as a spiritual journey etc. More recently, rather than drawing people together from across the Leeds area, we have concentrated on offering to rake such events to local communities.
In the current care climate which emphasises a holistic approach and the recognition of spiritual needs alongside physical, mental and social needs, FIEP has much to offer. If you are interested to learn more or to arrange an event at which we might help, please contact Albert Jewell.
