The purpose of the Leeds Benevolent Society for Single Ladies is to assist elderly spinsters in the Leeds Metropolitan Area.

The Society has over 100 pensioners in its care at any one time. All have been Leeds residents for at leasy seven years, as rwuired by the rules. These are ladies who live independently either in their own homes, or in rented accommodation. They are visited by the Society's Visitor and members of the Committee.

The Society gives support and help not only through a quarterly grant, but by the payment of telephione rentals, television licenses, holiday grants and Christmas presents. Several social events are organised during the year, including coach outings to lunch at a local hotel in the summer and towards Christmas, and visits to the theatre.

The Society has been playing its part in assisting elderly single ladies in the Leeds area for over 140 years now, and looks forward to upholding the tradition for many years to come.
