Leeds Black Elders Association is a city-wide voluntary organisation, catering specifically, but not exclusively, for the needs of the Black elders (people aged 55+) in Leeds. All services are confidential.

Services

Culturally appropriate Meals on Wheels, delivered 6 days a week to elders living in Leeds 6, 7, 8 and 9Home security and improvements service; decorating serviceGardeningBefriending for socially isolated eldersAdvocacy service for hospital and medical appointmentsA Stroke Club and a Dementia Club run regularly with activities to help with these conditionsTransport may be provided for those who need it

Help needed

The services listed above are run with the help of volunteers and LBEA is keen to recruit more volunteers who can support these services. People from all backgrounds and ages are welcome to volunteer: they need to be flexible and adaptable. LBEA will do a Criminal Records Bureau check and take up references for people wanting to volunteer; they will provide training and expensesDrivers for minibus and delivering mealsDecorators and gardenersAdvocates and befrienders

Plans

LBEA will soon be providing a day care service for more frail elders at the Frederick Hurdle Day CentreExtra care housing is also planned
